re: HOUSTON, WE
HAVE A PROBLEM: "Someone from Houston needs to take a close look at the
little man that came from Columbia and took over Sysco Charlotte. One of the
most successful Sysco locations in the SE region has turned around and is
heading for the toilet. His goal is to forget about the people that made
Charlotte great and replace them or demote them so his "buds" from Columbia can
come in and drive the company into the ground. No lie, just fact! The more of
his "buds" he brings in, the lower the sales go. Does that ring any bells? Other
Sysco locations in the area grow but under his leadership and his wavy haired
assistant with white shoes, Charlotte is down 4.2% over last year. It's probably
OK though, lets just fire enough of the Charlotte people that grew the company
as long as the "Prez" can have his friends from Columbia."

MIRADA: "Why don't you people quit waxing on about how great it is over
there in La Mirada. All you know is how to sell below your own landed cost and
that is the only way you are able to take business from the cube. Are you sure
you were not all trained by Phil Waring. You are taking our industry into the
toilet with your tactics. It is understandable that you have no other skill
except to sell below cost. It is a house of cards you are building and there
will be a big wind blowing from the east in Houston. What will you do when
eventually you have to show a profit? So please spare the people who read this
garbage here how great you are.Open up your warehouse and have a garage sale on
Saturday because the is the extent of the selling skills you all have.

personnel in his department, and not actually getting performance standards in
place may finally be catching up with him. Imagine if a couple of his buyers
actually responded, did what they said they were going to do, and worked on
pro-active cooperative approaches to the business? Think Winkler the Innocent
would be in this position? So Gilman was the first great inhibitor to go. Now if
Winkler the Innocent is next on the chopping block, then after so many years of
fumble, mumble, and rumble, we might actually see some positive activity coming
out of that building."

"What IS
THE TRUTH? If these guys are such incompetents, why were they hired? Is 6468
Phil Waring spewing his usual hate and discontent? And as far as giving accounts
to people, SER was and USF is just as guilty. I know of several situations where
salespeople lost major business and were either propped up financially or given
business. Let's see how everything shakes out. If these Sysco people are the
losers 6468 makes them out to be, they'll be gone soon. Guarantee or no
guarantee. I don't think Jon and Fred are that stupid."

re: SYSCO
CORONA: "In an unbiased opinion, Sysco Corona's management team is
starting off on the wrong foot. From recent experiences, it's a failed Sysco
management mentality. As they say, 'you can't teach an old dog new tricks'.
Sysco people are born and bread a certain way and are obviously made for that
company. Many USF people are old school Rykoff, Kraft, Aliant and J. Webb
professionals and the two styles just don't mix. You can't lead a U.S. bread
army with a Hitler style leadership. There's a unique style to selling other
than the 'Sysco way' and it's being projected as the way to launch USF Corona
(as of now). I guess it's up to the current USF T.M.'s and management to voice
their opinion and stand up against the obviously doomed launch of a division
that has to prove itself in a tough region and economy. The last thing Corona
needs is a mass exodous of employees with good long term commitment and loyalty,
unlike the recruits that failed at the cube. Corona still needs a change in
management to lead successfully, but time is running out.

place is incredible. We just paid $10,000 per manufacturer to do these Double
Vision blitzes. Totally disorganized, no one knew what what was up, hardly sold
squat, sales reps were upset with the whole thing because it made no sense for
them. Some of them drove hours to get to a meeting an watch the corporate chef
flip stuff on the grill for two minutes. Real cute. Most of the brokers and
sales reps didn't even show up to the morning meetings. It was a complete waste
of my manufacturer's money and my time. All smoke and mirrors at everyone else's
expense. I can't wait to do that again.
Just ask anyone in the sales force who the Dragon Lady is.
It's the VP of HR and don't cross her. I've been told by a couple sales reps and
buyers that she does all the dirty work for Speed so he doesn't look like the
bad guy. I guess he is if that's what he's doing. Imagine that...an HR VP that
the work force is terrified of. Now there's a new twist. I was told by a buyer
not to ask any questions or tell anyone what I was thinking around there unless
I wnted consequences. Now there's a heathy atmosphere."

re: FUEL
ISSUES/6474: "Are you living under a rock, just completely out of the
business or have no idea of how this all works? To say that current Fuel
Surcharges are a windfall profit for distributors is just nuts. Diesel Fuel hit
$4.70 a gallon this week. Every chain distribution company is one month behind
on Fuel Surcharges. In plain English this means they only get to raise the Fuel
Surcharge for the month AFTER they have already paid the high price. That is
fine when the market goes up and down to create balance. But, Fuel only goes up
so you never catch up! Then, the indexes were created back during the Gulf War
when fuel went from .87 to like 1.87 they were not created for this price and
simply don’t work. If you were to speak to any chain today you would know
today’s fuel prices are creating an entire new business model for chain
distribution. The broadliners are no different. If you look at fuel cost, and
remember the reefer runs on fuel as well, it is a negative on every P and L of
current fuel cost versus Budget and any surcharges charged. Bottom Line, every
distributor Is taking it in the shorts on fuel today. Anyone who says this is a
profit center does not see the P and L’s.

children in our area. Moving local people around like chess players, but you're
moving them to the wrong places. Are you heading for a check-mate? South
Carolina is moving cases and so is Raleigh. The wavy haired EVP here goes off of
Houston's payroll and on to Charlottes's payroll July 1. Is he and his white
shoes worth the high price or does he move out the door like so many other VPs
in the country. Is it critical that he spend his time reading the Wall Street
Journal and picking out what coffee the company should drink or is he an added
layer of fat like the other unnecessary layers of regional sales managers?. What
happened to the days of John Woodhouse and John Baugh the masters of Sysco's

| J. R. Simplot
Joyful, smiling, shaking hands, "Mr. Simplot was fluent in the universal language," said Larry Hlobik, president and CEO of the J.R. Simplot Co., who opened Simplot's memorial service at Qwest Arena. "He was always real and from the heart." About 1,000 people gathered Sunday to celebrate the man who put Idaho on the map and Idaho potatoes into dishes around the world. Simplot loved the Boise Philharmonic and loved to sing. During the service, the philharmonic played some of Simplot's favorite arrangements, including "Battle Hymn of the Republic" sung by the Boise Master Chorale. Simplot, a billionaire best known for providing McDonald's Corp. with its frozen french fries, died May 25 at his Boise home at age 99. Two weeks earlier, he had celebrated the birth of his first great-great-grandchild. Son Don Simplot said J.R. was convinced he would live to be 100, and the family was, too. "He was doing so well," Don said with a laugh. "I was sure he had some money on it. He bet on everything." Always up for a game, J.R. had probably gone through one or two decks of cards a week for almost 100 years, Don said. J.R. was a facts man and religion just didn't add up for him, Don said. "Dad had his own faith," Don said. "He told (his wife) Esther it was so special he didn't want to share it with anyone because they might steal it." Don summed up J.R.'s personal religion with a quote from the Dalai Lama: "There is no need for temples or complicated philosophy. Our heart is our temple, and our philosophy is kindness." Grandson John Otter noted that J.R. always had time for family. One time when John was planning to run a race around Payette Lake, J.R. insisted on driving him to the starting line. As the clock was ticking down to the start, the runners packed closer to the line. Muscles tensed and J.R. yelled from the sideline, "John, you find somebody you think you can beat, I'll back you for 500," John said. Former Idaho Governor Phil Batt recalled that J.R. used to talk about living to 100 by buying new body parts as old ones wore out. He had the enviable ability to make you feel like you were the one he wanted to see," Batt said. "He had an instinct for making money and the heart to give it away." Don Lubin, who served with Simplot on the McDonald's board, remembered how Simplot had lent him his Lincoln with the Mr. Spud license plates. Boise police pulled Lubin over because they thought the car had been stolen. They were even more suspicious when Lubin pulled out a Chicago driver's license, Lubin said, but J.R. vouched for him. "Jack's twilight years were much brighter than most people's daylight," Lubin said. "He had a pioneer spirit. He knew no bounds." Tommy Basabe, who runs Simplot's Land and Livestock Division, introduced himself as Jack Simplot's plumber. He said Simplot has been in his life for 50 years. "And I mean IN it," he said. "If the old man said it was gonna be OK, it was gonna be OK. He was the backstop for a lot of us." He called Simplot the icon of the Idaho rancher, pulling dollars through the small towns along the Snake River, from Blackfoot to Parma. "Everyone knew he was a gambler, but he wasn't a hip shooter," Basabe said. "He bet on his own judgment, and he drove that so deep in me it'll never come out." One of the biggest compliments J.R. ever paid anyone was "I gotta take my hat off to ya," an emotional Basabe said. Basabe left his hat in his pickup and asked the guests to indulge him in a round of applause for J.R., which led to a standing ovation. The family had prepared several photo montages of J.R.'s life set to music - including snapshots of Simplot pheasant hunting, country dancing, getting a hot-dog at Brundage, and with Ronald McDonald - which were interspersed throughout the service. Simplot also now has a permanent seat at Qwest Arena, H102, which was decorated with flowers. Grandsons Michael Simplot and John Otter hosted the ceremony, sharing stories of their life with J.R. "He always tried to define big for us," Otter said. "And when he did, he was usually on the rangeland, looking up at the big blue sky."

The food service companies actually have a windfall profit from the current cost

will have a break even point and then another fuel price increase before it
effects directly your distributors bottom line. Alas, as for what to do with a

thriving career at Walnut. You talk about us but the only thing you have in your
bag of tricks is to hand out landed cost price lists in a desperate attempt to
get new account applications filled out to make it look like your producing
something. At some point someone will need to answer for the $500 order that has

when the dime flips and you are forced to go from landed pricing to market value
pricing? It won't be much longer! You only have have one reputation and yours
will be going up in smoke! Let's look at these pencil dix and see what they
really bring to the table besides a 5 hour work day, golf every weekend at the
customers expense and daily drinks at 3pm on the Useless Foods Expense Account.
Tom Jones - A decent regional who got promoted one level
beyond his capability. An uninspired V.P. of Sales who had no vision for the
future and no ability to adjust or change course. Demoted to V.P. of Business
development and was a completely transparent figure who brought nothing to the
table. Tom will only be around as long as the guarantee lasts and then will
retire. Likes the ladies and has had his
***!
Matt Cook - Put B.W. / Metropolitan out of business, hired as
an Italian Specialist, got promoted when that loser John King left and then got
demoted again to head s***r.
Nick Abbley - Maybe the greatest D.S.M. to ever work at
Walnut. He should have stayed in that position as he was promoted to V.P. of
Marketing and was the worst V.P. of Marketing ever. He was then demoted back to
D.S.M. and then promoted back to Regional Manager. He's an alcoholic who lost
touch with reality, his company and his people. He flushed his reputation and
career down the toilet over his love of loser golf pro Bob Gomory.
Neil Morgan - A once great D.S.M. at Walnut. Very
knowledgeable! Made the biggest mistake of his life following Abbley and Jones!
Got fired from San Diego and became ungrateful to Walnut after they gave him a
chance and saved his life when he was unemployed.
Mario Sanchez - A like able guy whose biggest fault has
always been that his head was so far up Abbley's Ass that he could tell you what
he had for dinner the night before. Was promoted way too soon but rose to the
occasion and became a decent D.S.M. He got lazy in the end and rode the coat
tails of a great team to giant bonuses and trips without doing anything to help
them.
Dave LaDage - A ***
loser who never did anything for anybody. He seldom ever even left his house let
alone ever lifted a finger to assist any one in his district. One of the most
despised D.S.M's ever to work at SYSCO.
Bob Gomory - The Golf Pro! The worst most unqualified D.S.M
in the history of SYSCO Los Angeles. He was absolutely hated by everyone who
worked for him because of his incompetance and constantly protected by his b***y
Nick. Stole price lists and prospect lists from the people who worked for him at
SYSCO when he left.
Allan Michaelson - SSSSSSSSS says the snake! Was a great M.A.
but a whiny bitch. Was promoted to Director of Training - Failed and set fat as
an M.A.Was promoted to D.S.M - Failed and was set fat again as an M.A. How much
more could this comical prick ever be catered to? Absolutely ungrateful!
Kitty - Was given $ 40,000 per week and left - now her
business generates $ 50,000 / week in sales. I guess it helps to be more than a
pretty face!
Michelle Eschardies - What an ungrateful sow! Was supported
unconditionally when ***.
Best known as the current ***
now.
Steve "O" - Deprived of oxygen at birth - enough said -
riding out that guarantee!
Marc DeF***berg
- Self Centered, landed cost selling bottom dweller. Wrote about $15,000 / week
when he left.
Frank Gonzales - A hard working like able fellow at 1st.
Steals from his customers billing one customer while delivering product to
another customer. Tells so many lies that he cant keep them all straight and
takes anxiety meds to keep from falling apart. Left SYSCO before he was fired.
Jose T - Was made by Victor and Juvenal as is nothing without
them!
Are there more? I could go on forever. This is the star team
that Corona is spending so much time bragging about? On behalf of Walnut we are
thankful for the good deed that you have done for us. Today SYSCO is a much
better company and U.S. is much worse.
See you on the streets and bring it on booze boys

re: ST. LOUIS
BROKERS: "Does anyone have a broker that they can refer me to in St.
Louis, MO? I represent a large size national foods company and I am looking to
make a move in this market. I have met with a number of the big boys and can say
I have not been real impressed. Here is who I have talked to( I have included my
current broker in this just so rumors dont start, and what I felt when I left.
If you know of anyone else in this market, please reply.
Gateway Foodservice-TOO MANY LARGE LINES for focus. I can't
say that I would recommend nor can I say I wouldn't. They are good at what they
do, but really can't take on anymore from my opinion.
Osage Marketing-Very Professional, Pilgrims Pride and Windsor
account for 95% of the sales rep time. Need more employees for the lines they
represent. If they added another sales rep to cover outlying accounts, I would
recommend.
Thomas Marketing-Flashy Office, nice owner- Way too many
lines, many line conflicts, will take any line if money on it. Staff overwelmed
by Lamb Weston, Perdue, and Advance Foods. Not Recommended
Ratermann & Associates- Family Environment-very honest
friendly staff.(Offered line, but they declined due to another line.) I
recommend
OE Marketing- Been in Business a lone time, Sara Lee Broker.
Has a nice mix of large lines. Much like Gateway, OE has a great business, but
they can not take on anymore unless they hire more sales staff.
MidAmerican- Very Vocal Owner. At one time this was the
premier broker in St. Louis with Tyson, Nestle, Riches, MM Mars, etc. As
regionalization has taken its toll on MidAmerican, the ownership has replaced
most of the big lines with mid size companies. This company seems to know what
it is doing, but lacks the staff size. The owner seems to be very angry at the
industry as a whole. This would be a nice fit for some pioneering lines..
DBC Napoli- Regional Broker formally known as Napoli. Has
most of the lines that MidAmerican once had with a very minimal staff and
office. The sales staff is VERY overworked. Very friendly ownership, however I
dont recommend.
Okeefe & Associates- Small Firm with some nice lines. Very
Friendly, new owner. They need to add about 4 associates to be competitive. IF
they added sales staff I would recommend. Thanks, please respond if you know
anyone else I may be able to use."

there), I was told that they preferred someone "closer by." I live in Los
Angeles proper and the so. Cal. desert, so distance isn't a problem. Oh well!!!
Then, since I am actively looking to get back into mgmt. in
Foodservice and was totally brushed off by Sysco LA and even after sending
numerous resumes to USF, I have never spoken to a live person, I sent my resume
to a posting from Roma for salespeople, thinking it might be a foot in the door.
Quite soon after, I had a call from their VP of Sales asking
that I call him back to discuss. I returned his call three times, it entered
directly into his VM each time and I have never had a return call. Is there a
total lack of follow up over there or what?
Maybe it's best that I don't open that door?

re: COMMENTS:
"To all that have commented amount Sysco (Charlotte and others in the
Carolina's):
Sysco Dan, be glad you got out when you did and the fact you
could. I have worked for multiple Sysco houses, have done very well as a MA,
was asked multiple times to be a DSM. I have worked for you at Charlotte, you
were firm but fair, it was obvious you cared about your MAs and your sales mgmt
(you must have it Action Johnny has been able to stick around for as long as he
while doing as little work as he has. He along with that floppy haired EVP, who
spends more time scheduling golf and playing golf than he ever does working - he
must have learned that from the Bean Counter President at Raleigh). Times have
changed, equitities keep moving up, the corporate officers and the corporation
keep making the GP dollars, but it is the hard working MAs and their Dist Mgrs
that keep making less and less. --- MA trips, Chairman's club trip taken away
at Raleigh-- The Bean counting Pres at Raleigh needs to make sure he looks good
before he heads out so he can keep growing and padding his wallet - everyone can
tell he has one foot out the door. If you think little Napolian at Charlotte
has crushed the morale, you should talk to the MAs and Dist. Mgrs and other
members of mgmt at Raleigh . No raises for the DSMs in 2, soon to be 3 years,
no awards banquets, no Chairman's Club Trip. A president who spends more time
playing golf, and telling customers how much money he has in the bank. A
president that has missed half of the food shows or mini shows they have had. A
president that walks around talking about inappropriate topics like his stock,
his bank account, rubbing customers the wrong way and looking busy, when he is
not home taking a nap. A VP of Sales who has no spine to stand up to the Pres
or the VP of Merchandising- not sure which one of those is or has the biggest
pus&y. A lot of talk and no sales support action. Not a sales driven OPCO or
company anymore. Not much fun. I bleed Sysco blue, but when the corporation/opco
keeps taking and taking more and more away, and making it harder and harder to
make commissions, you have to wonder. I over heard some Dist Mgrs talking, they
can not get anything pushed through, every thing is NO. No, we don't do that,
we can not do that, we won't .... it is tough enough fighting the competition,
not to mention your own opco. They were talking saying they don't know how much
longer they can hold on (financially or with the work load/stress). Both said
it is causing major financial and personal issues at home. I don't know how my
Dist Mgr does it, how he is paying his bills. I know he has had to send his
wife back to work just to pay his mortgage. Yet look at everhone at Sysco
Corporate making the Big $$ -- Go on line and you can see where Schnieders,
Spitler, Big Bob David, Bill Delaney are making -- over 10k per week!!! Look at
all the VPs of Nothing at Corporate. Sysco Corp Mgmt and OPCO upper management
are out of touch. All they try to do or care about is how to work the system to
insure they get their bonus, stock options, etc... Both Dist Mgrs said they have
been told by other Dist Mgrs that they are looking around. Who ever mentioned
Don Shivers, you are right, he was the man over Operations. He is needed back
in Charlotte, Raleigh, maybe both. Corporate needs to come in and get rid of
the top three at Raleigh. Put real sales based people at the helm. Dan, MA's
and Dist Mgrs loved working for you. We hope you are enjoying your retirement,
you earned it. I just hope I am able to earn enough or hold on until then."

PRODUCE TOURS: "I work for one of the Cross Valley Farms vendors who used
to help support this trip every year. Ed always brought out a great group of
people. The MAs on the trip always talked at the dinners about how much they
learned on the trip and that they were going back to their customers to sell
even more produce to win another trip. The one thing that set Ed Rennie's trips
apart from all the other broadliner promo trips was the fact that he made it
mandatory for all of the MAs to attend a day long field and plant tours. If they
missed this component of the trip they were forced to forfeit their tee times at
Pebble. As a vendor nothing sticks in my throat more than paying for a dinner at
a great restaurant and seeing people at the table that didn't even bother to
come on our tour. We miss the USF Boston group. Hopefully they will come out
here again. Keep pushing those veggies!!!!"

TEMPTING/USF CORONA - "Well, summer's coming and USF Corona is getting ready to
roll. Once the split between L.A. and Corona is finalized, and accounts and
people are re-aligned, look for big things to happen. The people who came over
from Sysco can obviously see the future, and it ain't Walnut.
SO CAL FOOD DUDE"

re:
SHAMROCK/LEDYARD DEAL IS DEAD: "Heard through the grapevine that the
Shamrock/Ledyard deal is dead. A mutual customer had a sit down with Fontana who
admitted they were for sale, “Who isn’t?”, he said, but Fontana told our
customer no takers at this point. In the past I heard rumors from other sales
reps that the debt load is too high to make for a good deal. Pretty hard to
collect from customers that signed, on bar napkins -their agreement to pay. “Can
you produce this ‘Promisory bev nap?’ “ doesn’t play well in collections court.

CHICAGO PRODUCE TOUR: "Well I can remember many produce promo trips to
California. I am a retired USF Everett TM. We had a yearly trip to Pebble Beach.
We stayed at Spanish Bay, played Spyglass, Spanish Bay and Pebble Beach all on
the same trip. We had incredible dinners at places like Stillwater Grille,
Roy's, Fresh Cream and The Carmel Chop House. We only ended up at the Mucky duck
for last call. We were treated like kings by our Cross Valley Farms vendors. Our
produce guy, Ed Renney, outdid himself year after year with the trip amenities.
I worked my butt off every year to make sure I got on this trip. Unfortunately
the new Prez killed the trip. Hey John what has that done to your produce sales?
GLAD TO BE ON THE BEACH"

seem to be happy he's gone."

CHARLOTTE: "Anyone have any info on who to contact at Sysco Charlotte
about sales employment? All I can ever find is go to the ESC and fill out an
application which I am not even sure gets into the right hands. Can someone
PLEASE email me at john_nc_0101@yahoo.com and give me a email address or someone
to conact? I have years of food sales and management experience and have always
been interested in Sysco and wanting to make a change now!"

re: QUIET STORM
IN LEXINGTON: "When will Frank Brigman strike again. He is taken all of
our business and our best people. Can't anyone stop the man? Can't we get him
back on our side? 5 years of beat downs are enough. Derwood....quit lying to
us....you said we could get the Condons back, then we lost T Bones and Kicken
Chicken....whose next? Gilligans? We used to laugh at Sysco and now they are the
only ones laughing.....if things dont change soon their will be alot of people
laughing on the way to their new jobs......SOMEWHERE ELSE.

re: SYSCO DAN:
"I also retired from Sysco at 59and a great situation both before after
retiring.Never unemployed,a good commission and spiff program and a pension
program we did not contribute a dime to and now get a monthly check for life.
Sure there were "bumps in the road",miserable people to work
with,Sat.nite will calls, but that beats the current US business scene of "pink
slips",we no longer have a pension plan,go buy your own health insurance and
your job has gone overseas.
Retirement is golden"
